Boyd Widdis is the father of driver Bret Widdis, and is a legendary driver in his own right. Boyd has been involved with racing nearly his entire life. Some of his more recent accomplishments include receiving the 1994 GLRKA Rookie of the Year in go-kart racing, and the 1989 U.P. Chevy Dealers Association Class D first place prize.

Boyd started navigating rally racing at the age of 13. He can even add Motocross to his esteemed career. Boyd and brother Pete, also, began racing go-karts in 1963. He was even instrumental in creating a track in Manistique, Michigan. The team decided to get out of the carts in the early 70s. They would later jump back into kart racing in 1993, which was son Bret's first year of racing. Boyd would later win the 1994 GLRKA (Great Lakes Race Kart Association) Rookie of the Year.

Boyd began racing in local mud drags when the Upper Peninsula Mud Drag Association was organized in 1985 in Escanaba, Michigan. Ironically, both Boyd and Alison race the same truck. In 1989 Boyd took home the illustrious trophy in one of his classes and finished second in the other class. In 1990 the Widdis' were handed the torch and Boyd became the president of the UPMDA for two years. The organization grew immensly under the Widdis reign. After only having three races a year, the organization saw twelve races under the Widdis'. Also, different marketing ideas were accredited to the Widdis team such as selling T-shirts with UPMDA stamped all over them. The truck count was so large under the Widdis' that they needed to stop the entries at 250 trucks! Boyd would give a final farewell to mud drag racing as he won the championship in his class in his final season.

Boyd started racing off-road in 1993. After an unfortunate accident paralyzed the car, Boyd decided to build the number 6 car and began racing at Escanaba until the track was closed. He then moved on to Kinross Speedway.

He would race at Kinross Speedway until 2001. In 2004 he has raced occasionally at Thunder Valley Raceway in the 1998 Monte Carlo Late Model but continues to be crew chief to son Bret Widdis as he quickly climbs the charts.

Boyd's mentorship on and off the track are admirable to everyone he converses with. His racing ability and overall kindness need to be noted.
