MANISTIQUE, MI. - Bret
Widdis announced today he would be attending the 37th Annual
MARFC Dinner Dance & Awards Banquet on January 18, 2003.
The Michigan
Automobile Racing Fan Club holds an annual banquet each year
to honor champion drivers throughout the state of Michigan.
They are "dedicated to the betterment and benefit of auto
racing and those engaged therein."
MARFC was established
on September 25, 1965 in Grand Rapids, MI. The Club's first
Annual Awards Banquet was held on January 28, 1967 at the
Embassy Hall. The long list of stars that have received awards
in the past includes Benny Parsons, Frank Kimmell, Ron Drager,
and Jack Roush.
This year the 2003
Motor sports Writer of the Year will be Mike Brudenell, while
the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Stan Yee.
ESPN and Bob Jenkins will accept the Michigan Media Award of
Excellence, but the highlight will be when Winston Cup team
owner Jack Roush accepts his Personality of the Year
award.
When asked what he
thought of being able to "mingle" with the sport's best,
Widdis replied, "I have never been more honored in my life!
When I received the letter in the mail I thought it was a
joke! I'm glad I have the opportunity to attend."
Widdis will accept a
trophy for his accomplishments in the 2002 Kinross season.
Widdis took home the long title of Kinross Speedway Soo
Automotive Pure Stock Champion last year as he beat second
place driver Josh Ware by a small margin.
