Week in a Row!

The very anticipated night
was full of first times. The feature event would go from green
to checkered for the first time in the 2002 season. It would
be Ray Cottle’s first time this season to take a checkered
flag as he took the first heat race of the night. It would be
the first time this season that both Road Rage teammates would
take checkered flags, as Ben Huyck would obtain the second
heat race of the night. Also, it would be the first time that
Widdis would take his 3rd checkered flag 3 weeks in a row!!!!
In the Soo
Automotive Pure Stock division 16 cars would qualify with the
#7 car driven by Josh Ware having the fastest time at 16.79.
The night was to be the Mid-Season Championship for the Pure
Stock drivers. The 25 lap feature would display the cars lined
up by points instead of the usual qualifying times. The pole
was then obviously given to the points leader Stormin’ Norman
Miller with Bret Widdis outside of him.
Miller and Widdis
would jounce early for the lead position. For many laps Widdis
would continue to ride the high side of the track with Miller
directly beneath him. The rest of the field wouldn’t even get
a chance to come near to the lead since the event was under
green the entire race, and Widdis and Miller were obviously
two of the faster cars on the track!
Widdis would
finally get the run he needed to edge out the #73 car to take
the lead and his 3rd consecutive feature win!
In a phone
conversation with the new points leader, I just had to ask the
question that is on everyone’s mind: “Are you going to let
anyone else
win?”
