The Widdis Racing team
was able to pull off a perfect sweep of the field this past
Sunday afternoon at Thunder Valley Raceway. Bret Widdis,
driver of the number 15 Pontiac, was fast qualifier with an
unbelievable time of 14.88. Widdis’ qualifying run was only
the beginning. He would then start in the rear of the field
and work his way up to win the heat race. Bret also started
the feature race looking at the behind of every car in the
field (which happened to be 8 cars).
Only a few short laps into the feature he became stranded
behind Tom Salts driver of the number 03 car. Widdis, though,
was quickly able to maneuver his way around Salts and slowly
start his ascent toward the front of the field. Weaving in and
out of cars, Bret quickly found himself racing the number 12
and 75 cars for first place. With the
number 12 car, driven by Putch Bentley on the inside of Widdis
going into turn three, the number 75
car, driven by Scott Degnan, tapped
the back of the 12 car and sent both
cars in spins. Both drivers were able to correct the mistake;
however, it was too late. Bret quickly climbed to a 3 car lead
and would never look back. Bret took the checkered flag in the
feature race to complete his sweep at Thunder Valley Raceway.
