Late models, pure
stocks, and go-carts are just a few of the machines Bret
Widdis has driven over his short yet illustrious career. What
could possibly be added to such a resume? A few short weeks
ago Widdis again showed his superiority, but in a much
different setting. For two straight weekends Widdis dominated
the ice in Marinette/Menominee.
The first weekend
brought many surprises for the Widdis Racing team. In his very
first time racing on ice Bret finished 5th amongst a large
field. To advance to the feature a driver must finish in the
top 3 positions. A “consolation” race is given as a “last
chance” for any drivers not in the feature to make it to the
big show. It could be considered a B feature in many circuits.
Only the winner of the consolation race gets bumped up to the
feature. Bret would start third and be the first driver to see
the checkered flag fly. He became the only driver promoted to
the feature. In a long and exciting feature race, Widdis would
start last and gradually work his way to 5th. Considering the
race featured a 14 car field it was quite a feat for Widdis to
finish in the top 5.
The second weekend didn’t
disappoint just as the first didn’t. Bret finished 1st in his
heat which meant he automatically was sent to the feature
race. The feature was essentially a three car race. Widdis
would come screaming into turn 2 directly in front of your
humble correspondent and plow through a pile of snow built up
while attempting a pass on the first place car. That one minor
mistake was enough to keep him out of victory lane. He fell
back a few car lengths and couldn’t quite make the space up.
Widdis would finish second in the feature race.
With a
5th place finish and a 2nd place finish Widdis has quickly
gained the attention of many and established his ability on
ice. His uncanny ability to race has proven that he would be
able to race nearly everything! WiddisRacing.com congratulates
Bret on his two very successful weekends on ice.
