Sands, MI - Laps being
led, Dashes being won, Heats being won, and Features being won
were all just part of the show this Sunday afternoon at
Thunder Valley Raceway.
On this monumental
day, this 60th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, just one day
removed from the passing of the best United States President
in history, history would be made in a small town called
Sands, Michigan. What can possibly be better than Bret Widdis
winning his Dash for Cash AND his Feature race? What can
possibly be better than Jeff Dehanke leading nearly 7 of the
10 laps in the Heat race? The rookie driver, Jared Patz,
showed the fans the one thing that can beat the instances
mentioned earlier. Jared Patz had the day every driver hopes
for on his very first day! Putting Kasey Kahne's three second
place finishes to shame, Jared would go out and qualify third
in an eight car field. It doesn't stop there folks. Jared
would start in the rear of the field in the Heat race and win
the race. Yes, I said WIN THE RACE!!! In his very first race
Jared Patz passed all of his opponents to win the race! Jared
would then set his eyes on the Feature prize. The rookie
driver was able to finish in a strong fourth place! A victory
and a top five in your first two races; I wonder if Jared Patz
deserves the Rookie of the Year trophy.
I would like to
apologize for my unorthodox article. I truly cannot express
how excited I am that my friend, and now fellow teammate, had
such a terrific opening day. All of us from WiddisRacing.com
would like to congratulate Jared on his unbelievable
beginning. Pictures from the weekend can be viewed under the
TVR section in the Photo Page.
