West Allis, WI - On
Saturday, June 21, 2008, Bret Widdis edged out Gary Cerny for
a win in the 50 mile United States Super Truck series race at
the famed Milwaukee Mile (which happens to be the oldest
continuously run race track in the world). Widdis qualified
2nd in the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. Due to the invert,
Bret started in the 11th position. Widdis
immediately began to work his way toward the front
of the field. Shortly thereafter, fast qualifier
John Wood was involved in the race's first wreck.
Bret, then, settled into the third position for a long green
flag run. The final caution was brought out when race
leader Cole Howland's truck experienced electrical
problems. Gary Cerny inherited the lead on the
restart. Widdis, then, gained the jump on Cerny and
took the lead going into turn 1. Bret would
never relinquish the lead. According to race track
historians, Bret Widdis is the first Upper Peninsula based
driver to take a coveted Milwaukee Mile checkered
flag, including all major racing circuits (i.e. Nascar,
IndyCar, and SCCA).
We here at WiddisRacing.com
